The Logic of Being Brothers
Eternity Online: John Edmiston (Editor)
(Heb 13:1-3 NKJV) Let brotherly love continue. {2} Do not forget to
entertain strangers, for by so doing some have unwittingly entertained
angels. {3} Remember the prisoners as if chained with them; those who
are mistreated; since you yourselves are in the body also.
The fact that we are brothers in Christ has a number of very logical
outcomes which are enumerated throughout Hebrews chapter 13.
Brotherly love is hospitable and entertains even strangers, taking
them in as brothers and sisters in the Lord. When a new person visits
your church - are they welcomed, are they invited home somewhere, or
are they left out in the cold? Would you leave your brother "out in
the cold".
Brotherly love is one of identification with our fellow Christians.
Because they are our brothers we remember Christians in prison as if
we ourselves were in chains too and those who are mistreated and
tortured as if we ourselves went through the agony. We feel and care
and ache and pray - or at least we should.
Lastly we should pray for our brothers -especially when they call out
for it. "Heb 13:18,19 Pray for us; for we are confident that we have
a good conscience, in all things desiring to live honourably. 19 But
I especially urge you to do this, that I may be restored to you the
sooner." Praying for our brothers and sisters in Christ is both our
least and our greatest obligation. Least in that all it costs us is
time, greatest - in what it can accomplish for the person we pray
for. May I ask for prayers for this magazine and its financial
situation at the moment? It needs it. Your prayers will bring into
effect God's will for this outreach. Thank you.
Prayer:
Lord help us to see the glory in our brothers and sisters in the Lord
and to to greet them, love them, feel for them and pray for them.
Move us beyond our selfishness to real brotherly love. Amen.
