Patience Part Three
By Johnny Angel
In Genesis 29, we see another example of someone having to be
patient. Abraham's grandson Jacob was looking for a wife. He wanted
to marry one lady, but the lady's dad told Jacob he would have to work
seven years before he could marry her. When the seven years was
up, the dad tricked Jacob. It resulted in Jacob marrying the girl's sister.
He had to work seven more years to marry the lady he wanted to
marry.
We can apply this to our lives by realizing that we may often have to
wait for things that we want. We may look around at other people and
wish we had someone to date or were happily married like they are.
We may look at someone else's sports car or house and wish we had
it. But God will supply what we need. And as we seek Him, we will
begin to want the things that He wants. And as that happens, we will
get what we want. First, we have to allow our mindset to become
God's mindset.
Another point we can see here is that God will help things come
together at the right time when they are a part of His will. Jacob's
second wife was the father of Joseph. And through Joseph, God
fulfilled another promise to Abraham in that all of God's people had to
move to Egypt for a while. This would give rise to Moses 400 years
later. And God was able to use Moses to write the first five books of
the Bible, lead God's people out of Egypt, and write the law that would
help people worship God until it was time for Jesus to come.
Let's rewind just a minute. In the Old Testament, everyone is waiting
for Jesus to come. In fact, Adam and Eve probably expected the Son
of God to be one of their children or grandchildren. They thought God
would deliver them quickly. But God took almost 4000 years to send
Jesus. What I hope we can gain from this thought, is that God will give
us time to come to know Him in a strong relationship. During that 4000
years, Enoch, Abraham, David, Isaiah, Ezekiel, Elijah, Elisha, and many
others worshipped God and did what they could to help others.
We can get so wrapped up on our individual lives and what God's will
is, that we forget to simply worship Him. He simply wants our
availability. But we will only be able to hear Him speak when we wait
patiently and seek Him on a regular basis.
