Colossians Part Eight
By Johnny Angel
Colossians 3:[1] Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set
your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits at God's right
hand in the place of honor and power. [2] Let heaven fill your
thoughts. Do not think only about things down here on earth. [3] For
you died when Christ died, and your real life is hidden with Christ in
God. [4] And when Christ, who is your real life, is revealed to the whole
world, you will share in all his glory (NLT).
Today I had lunch with a friend I just made a few weeks ago. He is
studying to be a doctor. He shared with me that he wants to be a
doctor so he can help people. He talked about our whole purpose of
existing being to come to know Christ and to glorify God. He told me
we can't take anything from earth with us when life is over. We
shouldn't spend so much time worrying about material possessions and
the details of life when we can simply live our lives for Christ. I rejoiced
to hear him share all this.
Letting God work in our lives is like remodeling a house. You have to
cut things out here and build things on there. It takes a lot of
rearranging and work. One of my friends has recently been
experiencing a lot of problems. She had to drive up in the mountains to
get away from everything. While she was sitting beside a waterfall
reading her Bible, God told her that her life is like the rock at the bottom
of the waterfall. She is being hard and stubborn in not letting God have
100% of her life. She wants to give God 99% and keep a few things for
herself. But God has revealed to her that she must open up to His will.
God is like the water falling down. Eventually it will break loose parts
of the rock. God will keep us under conviction until He can work with
us.
We have been crucified with Christ. When we accepted Him into our
hearts, we had to die out to our old sinful selves and come to life in
Him. He is our real life now. We must focus on Him and be about His
business. One day we will share in all his glory.
