In Spirit Sent
By Gerald S. Sumeracki
They gathered in their place of prayer
And there they broke their bread
Their fear was great for their belief
Had died like Him who led.
He'd filled them with such hope for life
He showed them many signs
But he was gone, no more to preach
His teaching of end times.
What would they do who followed Him
They thought Him Son of God
"He was but man" in sorrow they said
Now laid beneath the sod.
Confusion filled their souls with doubt
When then as if by trick
Their Master was among their ranks
Said He "You I did pick."
"Now I've returned, alive not dead
"Forever now your kin
"Renew your faith and be sent forth
"To reap the souls you'll win."
With hands outstretched and smile He said
"You'll have the Holy Ghost
"Through power of God you'll do great things
"But do not ever boast."
"Be humbled low before all men
"And thereby earn your crown
"For he who lifts himself up high
"By God will be brought down."
Their spirits filled with love and zeal
Then out to preach they went
The dawn of grace was in them now
In Spirit they were sent.
