The Teaching
By Gerald Sumeracki
His called were gathered round Him,
As evening fires blazed,
All anxious for His teaching word,
Thier eyes were fixed and glazed.
"What be the Law and Prophets,
"In simple terms." they asked?
"Todo for men the good you'd like" said Christ,
"Must be your task."
Then Jesus gave them thought words,
To fix within the heart,
To help them understand God's Will,
When daybreak came to start.
"Judge not my friends, your fellow men,
"For this task is for God,
"The methods that you use for them,
"He'll make your measuring rod!"
"Refrain from looking for the speck,
"Your brother's eye may hold,
"Until the beam that clouds your sight,
"Is pulled from your's so bold!"
"Give not the gifts God gives you,
"To those who don't know worth,
"For they will crush in stupid haste,
"What could to then be birth."
"And what I'd have you know as sure,
"To claim what you would do,
"Is but a simple rule of God,
"You'll find as tried and true."
"It is to ask and seek and knock,
"Yes, surely as you're born,
"You'll get and find and be let in,
"Within a brand new morn."
"Yes, enter through the narrow gate,
"Through Me you'll find the Way
"Yes, bear good fruit, be only Mine,
"And know God's restive day.''
