Betrayal

By Gerald Sumeracki

He held the tears from flowing, Held back the urge for sobs, All those He loved would suffer much, At the hands of faithless mobs. They'd followed Him with faithfulness, And marveled at His deeds, Yet little did they know the price, They'd pay to preach His Creed. "Love all as I have loved you friends," Said Christ this very night, They'd heard His words, these special twelve, Yet still they had not sight. He knew the pains they'd suffer, He saw the deaths they'd find, And all because God gave all men, Free will to use the mind. His twelve could see the Truth He brought, They knew He came to teach, But worldly eyes still failed to see, That God was there to reach. The Age of grace was soon to come, He'd hope to spare them pain, But what would soon befall them all, Was naught to what they'd gain. He'd asked that they would watch and pray, While He did seek God's face, But weary flesh did take the toll, As Judas came in haste. He kissed the Lord upon the cheek, Betrayal stained his heart, Yet Jesus loved this close, dear friend, Now playing Satan's part. The pain of what was coming, To see what had to be, Brought dread that only He could feel, A final blood stained tree. Yet triumph would be His to claim, As did He God's true will, Yes, through His willing death for all, Came grace our souls to fill.
