A Widow's Penny

By Gerald Sumeracki

The Treasury coffers swelled with gold, As rich men paid their due, In public eye they'd flaunt their wealth, As gave they in full view. The Master and His followers, Conversed on points of Law, When chance a lowly widow came, And gave so no one saw. "She's given more than all the rest," Said Christ to those who'd hear, "For she did give all that she had, "Our Father she reveres." "Most others tithe from swollen wealth, "It hurts them not to give, "But what she gave came from her heart, "Her life for God she lives." "The Father sees the soul dear friends, "Of this you can be sure, "When gifts be given from the heart, "They're gifts that God holds pure." "It's not the glitter of man's gold, "But rather humble love, "That God does want of man's free will, "True love for Him above."
