Lord, Why Pain?
By Gerald Sumeracki
In looking at this anguished world
And seeing tears of pain
I asked my God why only few
Did feel His healing rain.
My heart was stilled, my spirit sighed
The answer came most sure
"Jesus died, look to Him
For each and every cure."
"So many trust in Jesus Lord
Yet sickness lessens not
They offer prayers but nothing helps
To ease their dismal lot."
"I know their pains, I know their fears
Yet this I say for sure
Jesus died, look to Him
For each and every cure."
I wondered at my God's response
I could not understand
He answered not my need to know
Why pain did fill the land.
I asked my God, "Why must we die?"
The answer came in haste
"To realize the gift you gain
When heaven you do taste."
"Jesus lived My life for you
And brought the world My love
In trusting Him with all your woes
You'll gain all that's above."
"The mystery of My use of grace
Will not be yours in life
But rest assured I will be just
To ease the wounds of strife."
"So few can see with gifted eyes
So few can hear the sounds
No human mind has ever thought
What lies beyond earth's bounds."
"As Jesus looked to greater good
When in the glen He prayed
He knew what pain and death He'd have
But saw the Promised Day."
"So look to Jesus, trust His grace
Life's pain and death's not lost
The Promised Day will surely come
To all who've paid that cost."
